Particularly in the early stages, many women turn to ginger to relieve nausea and vomiting, which commonly occur during this time. Throughout pregnancy, ginger can be a home remedy for cold symptoms. Not only does it have anti-inflammatory effects, but it also relieves coughs. Moreover, it supports digestion, helping to reduce discomfort such as constipation and bloating. Interestingly, ginger also has a blood-thinning effect, which may lower the risk of thrombosis during pregnancy.

Ginger in pregnancy – Is it safe?

There is no evidence to suggest that consuming ginger during pregnancy is dangerous or negatively affects the unborn child. It does not increase the risk of birth defects or miscarriages. However, doctors do point out that the intense, sharp taste of ginger can irritate the stomach, causing pain or worsening heartburn. It is best, therefore, if pregnant women consume ginger in moderation.

Ginger tea in pregnancy – How to prepare it?

Ginger is available in raw, dried, and pickled forms. To prepare ginger tea—especially helpful for nausea in the first trimester—fresh or dried ginger should be used. First, it is soaked and then covered with a larger amount of water. Due to its strong taste, it’s best if the expectant mother decides how strong she wants to make the tea.
