At the 28th week of pregnancy, expectant mothers begin to experience the nesting syndrome. Although they feel a little worse, they can clean, shop and finish the laundry until they are out of breath. In this way, they want to prepare for the new member of the family.

At this stage, the mother is not yet thinking about giving birth, although in exceptional cases it may happen. If the baby is born prematurely, it must be cared for by specialists. However, a mother with an uncomplicated pregnancy has no reason to worry.

Week 28 – what month is it?

The 28th week of pregnancy is the beginning of the 7th month and the 3rd trimester. If there is any doubt and a woman does not know how to convert weeks into months, she should ask a doctor or midwife for help. She can also look on the Internet.

Changes in the mother at the 28th week of pregnancy

At the 28th week of pregnancy, the mother’s weight has increased by at least 8 kilograms. The bottom of the uterus is now 7 cm above the navel. Some women begin to complain of back pain at this time. You should rest more, take care of your spine by doing light exercises for pregnant women, which will surely make you feel better.

If annoying itching of the skin occurs, also do not panic, but inform the doctor, who will surely provide relief. Bile can accumulate in the pregnant woman’s body, which leads to this complaint. In turn, a slight itching may be the result of the stretching of the skin – after all, the belly is constantly growing.

Some pregnant women have problems with the digestive system – they are particularly bothered by heartburn after meals or constipation. However, with the right diet, herbal teas, and over-the-counter suppositories and ointments, the discomfort can be effectively relieved. Before turning to medications, supplements or home remedies, always consult your doctor first.

In the 28th week of pregnancy, the mother may have to deal with increased activity of the mucous membranes. This can lead to a runny nose, which may cause you to snore easily at night. Do not worry, the runny nose will pass in the following weeks.

28 weeks – baby’s weight, movements and development

The classic kicks, in the 28th week, may be a thing of the past. The baby’s movements will now be weaker, because the little one is constantly growing (he already weighs almost 1 kg and is about 36 cm tall) and will soon be a little cramped. At this point, if he were born prematurely in the 28th week of pregnancy, he would need special care. However, he is already developed enough to function outside of his mother’s body in an incubator. Twins born at 28 weeks are much more likely to be born prematurely because multiple pregnancies usually end more quickly, and babies are cared for by specialists after birth so they can develop properly.

The baby grows and learns to swallow amniotic fluid. This is a fitness exercise for it that will come in handy after birth. Sometimes it also blinks. By this week, the baby’s genitals should have formed so that the expectant parents can find out its sex. Mistakes in this matter happen very rarely.

In the 28th week of pregnancy, the baby’s lungs are developing. At this moment they are covered with surfactant, which reduces their surface tension. After that, it is no longer needed.

The baby spends the day mainly sleeping. Unfortunately, not necessarily when his mother is sleeping. Interestingly, it has also been proven that the baby dreams! The 28th week of pregnancy is full of surprises.
