The fifth week of pregnancy is the time when you will almost certainly become a mother. The pregnancy test shows two lines. You have probably already noticed the first symptoms. Remember that these will not be as bothersome in the later stages of pregnancy. Get plenty of rest, eat a healthy diet and, above all, listen to your body.

In the 5th week of pregnancy you should make your first appointment with a gynaecologist. It is recommended to do this 6-8 weeks after your last period. At this appointment, the doctor will perform tests to confirm that you are going to be a mother. The necessary laboratory tests of blood (blood count, HIV test, toxoplasmosis, fasting glucose) and urine will also be done.

Pregnancy after 5 weeks

The fifth week of pregnancy is a time when the thought of becoming a mother may still seem a little unlikely. You are certainly very happy, but you are also worried about how you will cope in your new role. There is no need to worry. You will prepare yourself well for it over the next few months. Also remember that many things happen instinctively in motherhood.

The mother’s feelings in the 5th week of pregnancy

In the 5th week of pregnancy you may already experience typical pregnancy symptoms. In particular, menstrual bleeding has not occurred. Remember that menstruation is absent in pregnant women and that you should consult your doctor if spotting occurs during this time.

In the 5th week of pregnancy, the abdomen does not change yet. However, you will notice that your breasts are fuller and firmer. This is due to the accumulation of water in your body. At times they can be very sensitive to touch.

In the 5th week of pregnancy, nausea and vomiting may already occur. This symptom is very unpleasant and usually makes you feel even worse. If you experience nausea or severe vomiting, you should see a doctor as this can lead to dangerous dehydration. You may also feel sleepy, be tired all the time and have mood swings.

What does the baby look like in week 5 of pregnancy?

In the 5th week of pregnancy, the baby develops very intensively. His body is constantly producing cells that will later develop into all the internal organs, blood vessels, nerves, skin, bones, nails, hair and all other parts of the body. In addition, the placenta and the umbilical cord are formed, which will supply the baby with oxygen and important nutrients.

The first weeks of the baby’s development are very important for the formation of the nervous system. In the fifth week of pregnancy, the neural tube, the structure from which the brain and spinal cord develop, soon begins to form and close. Sometimes this process does not happen properly, which is associated with the development of serious defects. You can prevent this with folic acid supplementation.

Tests in the 5th week of pregnancy

If you have not already done so, take a pregnancy test. In the fifth week of pregnancy, you should already see two clear lines. This is because the concentration of chorionic gonadotropin is high enough. It is advisable to take the test first thing in the morning when you go to the toilet. Morning urine contains the highest amount of this hormone.

Vaginal ultrasound in the 5th week of pregnancy

If you have a vaginal ultrasound scan (USG) at the end of the 5th week of pregnancy, it is very likely that the doctor has already discovered the embryo. He or she will certainly show it to you on the screen. However, it will take some time before the developing baby in your womb begins to resemble a human being.
