Wiktoria’s cord blood saves life of her older brother

For over two years, 7-year-old Kacper struggled with aplastic anemia – a severe bone marrow dysfunction. The only chance for the boy was bone marrow transplantation. Unfortunately, the parents were in agreement with Kacper only half, and the younger brother Nicholas in 7 out of 10 antigens. Because the bone marrow transplantation requires 9 out of 10 – family members were excluded as donors. The fight against time has begun. One year after the diagnosis of the disease, the donor was found, and Kacper was ready for surgery. Unfortunately, the donor withdrew 10 days before the planned treatment. A younger sister turned out to be a rescue, from whom umbilical cord blood was collected, and then transplanted to Kacper.

    Cord blood saves Dominika

Dominika had health problems from birth. Analysis of the test results showed that the girl suffered from Fanconi anemia. Within a year and a half, a few people were found who could be potential donors, but each time at subsequent stages of tissue compatibility tests, it turned out that the donors were not suitable. At that time Dominika’s parents decided to have another child, hoping that the antigenic compatibility between the siblings would enable the transplantation. When Kacper was born, everyone breathed a sigh of relief that the stem cells from the umbilical cord blood would be able to be transplanted to Dominika. After one and a half month after the transplantation, Dominika left the hospital. Day by day the effects of treatment were more and more satisfactory and allowed the girl to return to a normal life. Dominika currently feels great. The time of illness has ended and the time has come to fulfill her dreams.
