A typical symptom of diastasis of the symphysis pubis is pain in the entire pelvic girdle and in the area of the conjunctiva. The pain can radiate to the buttocks and lower limbs. The pain is usually worse after prolonged standing. The pain also occurs when climbing stairs or walking fast. Women who were less active before pregnancy tend to suffer more.<\/p>\n
The first step in the event of pain is a correct diagnosis. This is usually done by a doctor or physiotherapist who is experienced in working with pregnant women. It is not necessary to carry out imaging examinations. Targeted exercises and rehabilitation with a physiotherapist are advisable to alleviate the discomfort. In addition, painkillers (especially paracetamol during pregnancy) can be used if the pain is severe. In some situations, a special belt can be used, but this should not be the treatment of first choice.<\/p>\n
A diastasis of the symphysis pubis during pregnancy is not an indication for a caesarean section. Most women give birth naturally and the symptoms disappear a few days after delivery. If the displacement is large, the opinion of an orthopaedic surgeon may be required.<\/p>\n
